Screening for kidney stones

The Royal Free Stone Service benefits from extremely close links between the stone urologists and physicians with an interest in stone disease. We aim to provide a complete and integrated service to our patients with kidney stone disease. Part of this is to perform investigations to find out the reason why you are forming stones in your kidneys or urinary tract in the first place. We will suggest whether this additional service is likely to benefit you. The Royal Free London has one of the largest such programmes in the UK, and has a great deal of clinical and research expertise in this area.

Over 50% of kidney stone patients will form another stone in the next 10 years, so we take a long-term view. We use clinical information, blood and urine test results to find an underlying cause, and then devise a plan to try and reduce your chances of forming further stones in the future.

The clinic is available for same day bookings Monday to Friday, between 5pm and 8pm.
